One of the many fields that benefited from the discoveries from the Islamic golden age was the field of mathematics. According The story of mathematics, there were many important mathematical advancements, one of which was algebra. The story of mathematics discusses one very important man named, Muhammad Al-Khwarizmi. He was the director of the house of wisdom in the 9th century and an excellent mathematician. He advocated for the world to use the Hindu numerical system, 1-9 and 0, which became the prominent system around the world. He also did a lot of work in Algebra when this field of study was still in its early stages. Algebra is currently a basic mathematical skill that we take for granted. Almost all of mathematics has algebra as the basic foundation block they are built upon. Calculus, differential equations, linear algebra are all built upon the discoveries from the Islamic golden age.

He wasn’t the only great mathematical mind at the house of wisdom, another great mind was Muhammad Al-Karaji. He was one of the first to work with algebraic calculus, the starting point of all of calculus. He also was in the early workings of a binomial expansion theory that is often used in modern mathematics. This was the start of a binomial theorem called pascal's triangle that wouldn’t be discovered until the 17th century.
